SCULPTURES

Sculptural ceramics by Femke Hoyng

Hand-built ceramic sculptures explore weight, balance and containment — both physical and symbolic.
The works combine sculptural form with layered photographic surfaces, merging material presence with lived image. Each figure stands still, yet implies movement: carrying, pausing, bearing.

The Carriers series is inspired by women who carry water over long distances each day. Their physical labour becomes a metaphor for resilience, dignity and care, while also drawing attention to the global inequality in access to clean water. The sculptures transform this everyday act into quiet, monumental figures that invite reflection on our relationship with water, nature and one another.

Alongside the human archetype, natural forms appear as vessels of time and transformation. The practice moves between body, nature and material — where holding becomes a state of being.
