PHOTOGRAPHY ON CERAMICS
Femke Hoyng’s sculptures are a combination of ceramics and photography. Her photographs serve as the starting point for each piece; the form of the subject within the photograph dictates the shape of the sculpture. The two-dimensional photographic image is mounted onto a three-dimensional ceramic object, creating a fusion of material spatiality and captured, realistic moments.

De sculpturen van Femke Hoyng zijn een combinatie van keramiek en fotografie. Haar foto’s vormen het uitgangspunt van een werk. De vorm van het beeld op de foto bepaalt de vorm van de sculptuur. De 2-dimensionale gefotografeerde afbeelding wordt op een 3-dimensionaal keramisch object gemonteerd. Hierdoor ontstaat een versmelting tussen materiële ruimtelijkheid en vastgelegde realistische momentopnamen.
The autonomous work consists at this moment of sculptural series inspired by women who carry water on their heads. Brought together under the title ‘WaterCarriers’, these pieces explore water as a source of life, the resilience of women, and the unequal distribution of natural resources. The sculptures depict the everyday act of carrying water, expressing respect for the dignity, strength and endurance of women.
Het autonome werk bestaat op dit moment uit sculpturale series geïnspireerd door vrouwen die water op hun hoofd dragen. Deze werken, samengebracht onder de titel ‘Waterdraagsters’, gaan over water als bron van leven, de veerkracht van vrouwen en de ongelijke verdeling van natuurlijke hulpbronnen. Deze sculpturen tonen de alledaagse handeling van het dragen van water en drukken respect uit voor de waardigheid, kracht en het uithoudingsvermogen van vrouwen.
